Respite care allows for both your child with a disability and you – their carer – to have a break from your normal routine and a chance to do things that neither your child or yourself do when you are caring for your child.
Respite is known differently under the NDIS, it is known as any of the following:
Levels of respite-like supports
Under the NDIS, there are three levels of respite-like supports available. These are:
Level 1 – 7 to 14 days per year to ensure that you, the carer, can attend key activities
Level 2 – 14 to 28 days per year, including a strategy to build capability for future independence
Level 3 – 28 days per year, when you, the carer, support your child most days and informal support is at risk of not continuing due to the intensity of support
Accessing respite through the NDIS
Respite is a core support funded under the “Assistance with Daily Life” budget. If you have this budget, then you can use it for respite services in the Brisbane area. Receiving this funding is subject to the reasonable and necessary criteria so you will need to let your planner know:
Xavier Place
Xavier Place is our newly renovated, 6 bed, respite centre in the Brisbane suburb of Yeerongpilly. It’s a welcoming home away from home for children, teenagers and young adults to receive overnight respite, have fun with those their own age and receive the health support that they need.
