COVID-19 Update for Therapy & Nursing Supports

At Xavier, we are closely monitoring the information and advice provided by our government health departments regarding COVID-19. We are working on ways to continue our therapy and nursing services in a revised format. 

What will happen?

We will continue to provide therapy and nursing through remote means wherever possible. This may mean having therapy sessions, nursing assessments, support and consultations through:

  • Teletherapy using video teleconferencing platforms 
  • Phone consultation over the phone with your therapist or nurse
  • Home programs with support (similar to home schooling where we may develop some resources and instructions for you to use at home, and then will check in regularly with you via teletherapy or phone)

Where necessary, we may still be able to provide face-to-face support either in our clinics or at home, providing that all requirements advised by our health departments are met. The ability to do this will depend on:

  • The health of the client and other members of the household
  • The health of the therapist
  • Government advice and recommendations

If face-to-face contact is required, our staff will maintain strict hygiene practices and ask that our families do the same, including:

  • Washing hands with soap and water and/or hand sanitiser before and after every contact
  • Maintaining a 1.5 metre distance as much as possible
  • Not having more than one person per 4 square metres
  • Using outdoor areas when possible
  • Using antibacterial wipes to clean equipment

What else can you do?

Please advise us prior to any face-to-face contact if anyone in your household is unwell, is in directed isolation, or has had any contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19. Our therapists will phone you prior to home visits to discuss whether there are any health concerns.

What will happen next?

  • We will contact all of our families personally to discuss your needs
  • If you would like to speak to us sooner, or you are currently not receiving therapy or nursing services and would like some support, please phone us on 1800 XAVIER, or email our Allied Health Coordinator, Catherine alliedhealthcoordinator@xavier.org.au
  • We currently have a wait list for some services but anticipate that, due to people self-isolating, we will have some capacity to provide additional short term supports
