An update on COVID-19

With the recent updates in the media about the COVID-19 virus it’s understandable that many of us feel concerned.  At Xavier, our priority is the health of our children and families, our staff and our volunteers. Over recent weeks, we have been planning for any increase in alert levels so that we can put the appropriate measures in place.

What are we doing?

All of our staff have been briefed to implement the advice provided by Queensland Health to reduce the risks of spreading the virus.  If staff become unwell, or fall into any of the quarantine categories we will work with them to follow the instructions supplied by Queensland Health.  If the advice from Queensland Health changes, we will let you know.

At all times, we train and support our staff to implement recommended hygiene practices. They include:

  • cleaning hands with soap and water or alcohol based hand rubs
  • covering nose and/or mouth with a tissue or flexed elbow when coughing or sneezing
  • avoiding contact with anyone who has symptoms such as fever, a cough, sore throat, fatigue and shortness of breath
  • staying home if unwell

In response to the COVID-19 virus we are also implementing additional strategies to:

  • minimise unnecessary contact between our employees
  • ensure extra supplies of personal protective equipment like hand sanitisers and gloves
  • encourage staff who can, to work from home
  • increase sick leave provisions for all employees including casuals to ensure they are financially supported if they need to self-quarantine

What can you do?

We are also asking families and participants for their support during this time.  Please let us know as soon as possible if you or a member of your family becomes unwell.  If you have any cold or flu-like symptoms or come into contact with a person who has COVID-19 virus, please:

  • contact Queensland Health on 1800 020 080 or your GP
  • contact us before your next booking

For the most up to date information go to the Queensland Health website.
