Providing therapy for children with a disability in Wooloowin

Throughout 2020, we’ve been working behind the scenes to grow the therapy services that we provide to support children and young people with a disability and their families.

We have expanded the areas that we provide therapy services, most recently to support more children and young people in Wooloowin (in Brisbane’s north) and surrounding suburbs.

In partnership with Ballycara, we have opened our newest community therapy clinic at 36 Rose Street, Wooloowin. Here, our passionate team of clinicians support children and young people with a disability to meet their goals through occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech therapy.

Let’s take a look at how occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech therapy support children and young people with a disability to live more independently and fulfil their potential.

Occupational Therapy – Our Occupational Therapists (OTs) support children and young adults with a disability to do more of the things that they love. Our OTs support children and young people to improve their ability, confidence and independence in everyday activities. For each child that we support, the everyday tasks that our OTs focus on depend on the child and their ability and goals, they might include;

  • Toileting
  • Dressing
  • Eating
  • Playing
  • Writing or drawing
  • Routines and transitions
  • Lots more

We can help your child to fulfil their potential through:

  • Assistive technology
  • Home and vehicle modifications
  • Equipment prescription
  • Lots more

Physiotherapy – Our Wooloowin Physiotherapists support children and young adults with a physical disability to develop movement, improve fine and gross motor skills and improve strength, flexibility, muscle tone and posture. Our physio team work with children and young adults to support them to participate in the physical aspects of everyday life to the best of their ability.

We can help your child to fulfil their potential through:

  • Tailored exercise programs
  • Play and physical activity
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Respiratory support
  • Support for positioning and posture
  • Mobility equipment prescription

Speech Therapy – Our team of Speech Pathologists work with children and young adults with a disability to improve their communication so that they can better voice their needs and wants (both verbally and non-verbally). Our Speech Pathologists help children to socialise and to be more included in their communities. They also help children and young people who experience swallowing difficulties.

We can help your child to fulfil their potential through:

  • Augmentative and Alternate Communication (AAC)
  • PODD books
  • Key word sign
  • Signing and rhyming
  • Games that improve communication
  • Lots more
