Finding the right respite centre for your Brisbane teenager is so important for your child and for your family. Your teen needs to feel comfortable, relaxed and safe in an environment that gives them the opportunity to enjoy some independence away from their parents (just like every teenager wants!)
As the parent (or full time carer) of a teenager with disability and related health needs, you need to be confident that they are receiving the quality of care that they need.
All of this is achievable through your NDIS funding.
How to request funding for respite
Under the NDIS what was previously known as respite is now known as Short Term Accommodation and Assistance. Short Term Accommodation and Assistance is defined as “both a short stay in a property with other people or additional support for your own home” and is funded under Core Supports – Assistance with Daily Life. This funding can be used to access disability respite care like Xavier Place, our 6 bed centre situated in the Brisbane suburb of Yeerongpilly.
If your teen doesn’t have Short Term Accommodation and Assistance included in their plan, you can request it. Your request for funding will need to be deemed as reasonable and necessary by the NDIA.
If you are going to request funding for disability respite care (short term accommodation) for your child:
