NDIS service providers in Brisbane: Your first planning meeting

As a registered NDIS providers in Brisbane the team at Xavier are working with families to help them plan and prepare for their first NDIS Planning Meeting. We’ve been providing support for children with complex disabilities in Brisbane since 1951.  Now, with the roll-out of the NDIS the types of supports and assistance we provide to families is changing but our vision remains the same. We believe in enabling families to live the best lives possible, as a family. And a big part of that in 2018 is helping families with their transitions to the NDIS.

The first planning meeting is unfamiliar and for some families it can be stressful. We believe that as NDIS Service Providers in Brisbane, it is our role to help our families be as prepared as possible and help reduce some of the stress. So how can you prepare for your first planning meeting?

There are a number of ways that you can get prepared for your first planning meeting to help your child get the supports that they need. Here are 5 quick tips from the team at Xavier:

  1.       Understand what an NDIS Plan looks like – ask your children's disability services provider to take you through some examples
  2.       Work out the long-term and short-term goals for your child – your key worker can help you with this in your pre-planning meeting
  3.       Then, consider how your child can achieve these goals and what supports they need
  4.       Be ready to communicate the current supports that your child has in place and whether they need any additional supports
  5.       Do your research – as well as receiving advice from an organisation like Xavier, do as much of your own research as possible
