Preparing for your first NDIS planning meeting with your child disability service provider

At InFocus we have been providing support and services for children with disabilities in Ipswich (and Brisbane) for decades. InFocus, previously known as Xavier Children’s Support Network, started out back in 1951. Our rich heritage means that we have a wealth of experiencing in providing support for children with complex disabilities in Brisbane.

Now as a registered NDIS service providers in Ipswich , where the roll-out of the NDIS has already commenced, the way in which we provide our services and support is changing but our passion and dedication to provide family support for children with disabilities in Brisbane remains.

We’re working with families who are about to have their first planning meeting and because the NDIS process is new this can understandably cause some nervousness. We’re here to provide leading child disability support Brisbane and that includes providing our families with the information they need to put their mind at ease and help make their NDIS transition as smooth as possible.

Knowing what to expect from your first NDIS Planning Meeting is helping our families to feel more prepared. Having an understanding of the type of questions your NDIA Planner might ask will help. Here are some of the things to think about in preparation for your first planning meeting.

  • How your child manages with daily activities and social and community participation.
  • Activities that your child is currently doing in the community or activities you would like your child to be taking part in.
  • Support your child gets from family, friends and services (like childcare or the education system).
  • The goals you have for your child.  These can be longer term goals but it is good also to think about short term goals too.
  • Any barriers to achieving goals that are related to your child's development.

Thinking about these things ahead of your first planning meeting will help you to communicate your child’s and your family’s unique situation once you are in the planning meeting.
